In September and October of 2024, Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused significant impacts along a wide stretch of the Florida Trail. While our staff and volunteers have made great progress in addressing storm damage, closures and suggested detours continue to be in place for several sections of the FT. These include:
- The Aucilla WMA and Middle Aucilla Conservation Areas.
- Portions of the FT along the Suwannee River stretching from Twin Rivers to Suwannee River State Park. The trail east of the Big Oak Trailhead is clear. This does not include the trail within the State Park, which remains closed.
FTA crews are continuing to conduct maintenance and trail restoration work, and all of these areas are forecast to re-open by mid-February. While not closed, many other trail segments throughout the state were impacted by the storms, and hikers may still encounter difficult trail conditions. Please see the attached map for areas where storm impacts have been reported.
Please continue to visit our Notice to Hikers page for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for continuing to respect closures and ensuring we can complete this work safely and in consultation with local land managers.
