Due to investigations being conducted regarding a recent alligator-related human fatality in the the Econlockhatchee River in Little Big Econ State Forest, the Florida Forest Service (FFS) has temporarily closed the Barr Street Trailhead and their West Camp Primitive Sites. Hikers are permitted to use the Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST) but will be unable to use the aforementioned closed areas. According to FFS personnel, hiking on the FNST is not restricted at this time; however, it is advised that day-use hikers seek other trails in the vicinity until the FFS re-opens this area.
