About the Artwork

“This artwork is my love letter to the Florida National Scenic Trail, with some of the places, landscapes, plants, and wildlife that make the trail so uniquely Florida tucked inside its iconic logo. I used real places and photographs as references because I wanted the landscapes to be recognizable. Big Cypress had to be included, with special thanks to Chris Littlefield for providing the perfect reference photo. The trail branches to represent the multiple route options found along the FNST, including a scene inspired by Charles H. Bronson State Forest. Above, the water and sunset draw from both Lake Okeechobee and the Panhandle, with the St. Marks Lighthouse on the horizon. Look closely and you’ll also find some of Florida’s residents, both flora and fauna, hidden along the trail.

Even the border tells a story. It uses an actual Florida National Scenic Trail map centered on the section maintained by my home chapter, the Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Trail Association.

From swamp to forest, lake to coast, the piece is a small celebration of the incredible variety found along the Florida Trail.”

About the Artist

Chelsey Stevens, known on the trail as Honeybee, is a Florida hiker, artist, and writer for FloridaHikes.com, as well as a longtime volunteer with the Florida Trail Association. She has served the organization at both the chapter and statewide level, including on its Board of Directors. Her years spent hiking, volunteering, writing about, and exploring Florida’s public lands with her family inspired the places and small details woven throughout this design.
