Due to construction on the Miami Canal a section of the FNST has been temporarily closed. The south end of the re-route (white blaze) starts on the L1-E Levee at the intersection of CR-835 (Evercane Road) and Rogers Road. The north end of the re-route starts in the town of Clewiston at Esperanza Ave and S Francisco St by Kelly Tractor. Total trail closure along the L1-E Levee and Miami Canal is 7.9 miles.
Hiking North: On the L1-E Levee at the intersection of CR-835 and Rogers Road, cross the canal bridge and follow CR-835 (white blazes) north for 6.5 miles. Then turn west onto Old US HWY 27 until you reach US-27 (at the Marathon Gas Station). Leave the gas station and follow the sidewalk west along the south side of US-27 for 0.8 miles until you reach the stoplight at the intersection of US-27 and S Francisco St. At the stoplight cross US-27 (CAREFULLY, THIS IS A VERY BUSY ROAD) and head north for one block where you will re-join the FNST (orange blazes) at Esperanza Ave. At this point you can choose to hike east or west around Lake Okeechobee.
The Miami Canal closure will remain in effect until further notice. Updated 12/4/2025
