Hurricane Helene is forecast to make landfall this week, likely resulting in widespread impacts to the Florida Trail. Our thoughts are with our members and the communities in the storm’s path. Public lands and recreation sites throughout the storm’s path are currently closed, including many sections of the FT. Information about individual closures can be found below. We ask the public and our volunteer community to please respect these closures.
In the aftermath of the storm, we ask the public to please continue to avoid hiking or performing trail maintenance along the FT until closure orders are lifted. FTA staff will be working with USFS and our land manager partners to assess storm impacts. Updates about specific sections of the FT will be posted below as assessments are completed. Our priority is to ensure assessments and remediation work are completed safely and in consultation with local land managers. Volunteer trail maintenance events to address storm impacts will be scheduled in the weeks and months to come.
