11.14.24 – Hurricane Impacts Update

In September and October of 2024, Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused significant impacts along a wide stretch of the Florida Trail. While our staff and volunteers have made great progress in addressing storm damage, closures and suggested detours continue to be in place for several sections of the FT. These include:

  • The Aucilla WMA and Middle Aucilla Conservation Areas.
  • A significant portion of the FT along the Suwannee River stretching from Twin Rivers to US-129, including sections in Twin Rivers State Forest, Suwannee River State Park, and Holton Creek WMA.
  • The Juniper Prairie Wilderness section of the Ocala National Forest.
  • The FT Western Corridor, including sections of Withlacoochee State Forest and Green Swamp WMA.

FTA crews are continuing to conduct maintenance and trail restoration work, and many of these areas are forecast to re-open in the coming weeks. Please continue to visit our Notice to Hikers page for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for continuing to respect closures and ensuring we can complete this work safely and in consultation with local land managers.
